Start Time is operated by Home Pulse Technology LLC, a California limited liability company (“Home Pulse”, “we”, “us”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Start Time website at starttime.io and the Start Time mobile apps (together, the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
Account information. You sign in with Google or Apple. From your sign-in provider we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We never see or store a password for you.
Profile information. Information you add yourself: the sports you play, skill levels, availability windows, home location or search radius, and a bio if you write one.
Location information. Events and venues have locations, and we use the location you set (or, on mobile, your device location if you grant permission) to show you nearby events and groups. Device location is used to position the map and search results; you can decline the permission and set a location manually instead.
Content you create. Events, groups, posts, photos, RSVPs, event results, and messages you send (including direct messages and group chat).
Safety and moderation information. If you report content or another user, we keep the report — what you reported, the reason you chose, and an excerpt of the reported content — so we can review and act on it. If you block someone, we store that block so your content and theirs stay hidden from each other. Blocks are private: the other person is not notified.
Technical information. Push notification tokens (if you enable notifications on mobile), and standard server logs such as IP address and browser type, used for security and to keep the Service running.
With other users. Start Time is a social product: your name, photo, sport profiles, and recent activity are visible to other users as part of using the Service — for example, appearing on an event roster after you RSVP, or in a group member list. Messages are visible to their recipients (the other person in a DM, or members of a group chat).
With service providers. We use Amazon Web Services to host the Service, store photos, and send email. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.
Business transfers. If Home Pulse is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; this policy would continue to apply to it.
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit, photo uploads use short-lived signed URLs, and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information with industry-standard practices.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account from your settings at any time. When you do, your profile and personal information are deleted or de-identified; some content may persist in de-identified form where it is part of other people’s records (for example, a past event’s attendance count), and residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before being purged.
You can access and update your profile information directly in the app, and delete your account from settings. You can also contact us at privacy@starttime.io to request a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask questions about this policy.
California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.
Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland have rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. We process your data to perform our contract with you (running the Service) and for our legitimate interests in keeping it safe. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
We honor these requests for all users, wherever you live.
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Transactional email (like event reminders and waitlist promotions) and push notifications can be managed from your notification settings in the app. Push notifications also require your device-level permission, which you can revoke at any time in your device settings.
The Service is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored there. If you use the Service from outside the US, you understand that your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you — for example by email or an in-app notice — before they take effect. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
